A blend of Scotch and Cognac, sir?

'But of course!' 'Mais oui!'

At an elevation of 476 feet Château de Sauge is situated on a south west facing hillside with privileged views of the Deux-Sevres countryside and the charming town of Saint-Maixent l’Ecolle.

Currently undergoing a sympathetic restoration, it’s certain to establish itself as a haven for escaping U.K. travellers post Covid. Donna and Paul, the Scottish owners have been busy throughout the pandemic restoring major elements. You can catch-up with their escapades on their web site and on channel four's ‘Escape to the Château DIY’.

A new dining terrace provides guests with a grand perspective of the gardens and provides a fine location for eating under the stars.

Already completed: a classically designed wedding suite and amongst other rooms, a kitchen fit for 'Master Chef' and a gloriously English Tea Room which is now open for breakfast, lunch and of course tea!

Due for completion before the 2022 season is a feast of projects that include a swimming pool, a library, fine dining room in a tithe barn and a health and beauty spa.

I recently stayed in a completed wing of the 14th century building and despite the work in progress enjoyed both the ambience of the hosts and the preserved character of the chateau and grounds.
